Learning Torah in Eretz Yisrael
Learning Torah in Eretz Yisrael should be something obvious that every Jew no matter where they live should be able to do. Unfortunately, this is not the reality for many for a number of different reasons. Instead, Jews from across the globe view the possibility of Learning Torah in Israel as a privilege that will give them greater opportunities in the Jewish world in life, such as get accepted into Yeshivot, Shidduchim, teaching positions and carriers. This is so sad that God´s gift to the Jewish People in the right environment isn´t accessible to every Jew.
Torah in Eretz Yisrael for Everyone
Learning Torah in Eretz Yisrael should not be depended on a family´s financial situation but this is the sad truth. The study Torah for a year in Israel in a Yeshiva for boys or Seminar for girls can easily const towards 30 000 USD for a year. Everyone understands that only a limited number of Jews from abroad can afford this. Even though the Jewish Agency (MASA) and Jewish organizations abroad have stipends it will only cover a fraction of the cost of the program. And it is not only the cost of the program that has to be covered for a year, but also pocket money is needed to be able and survive. The sad truth is that many owners of seminars and Yeshivot for overseas students in Israel are making a fortune on their students. We have to remember that we are in Israel and not in America or Europe. But the fees to study a year in Yeshiva or Seminar is in the league as one academic year at a university in Chutz La ´aretz. If they at least have had kept the fees equal to a year at university in Israel.
Learning Torah in Eretz Yisrael for All
Learning Torah in Eretz Yisrael should be for all. No question about it! And for some special reasons:
- The Torah was meant to be kept in the Land of Israel and studied here
- By studying Torah in Eretz Yisrael, hopefully, Jews will make Aliyah
- No other place then in Israel can we feel the Torah
- Bring your Tanach with you and most places you read about you can actually visit as well
Hopefully, the owners of Yeshivot and Seminars will soon understand the harm they are causing by comparing their fees to university studies.
We want all Jews to have the same chance in the Jewish world, regardless of the economic conditions.
